Jagmohan Dalmiya’s death has triggered a power struggle not just within the BCCI, it is also being felt in the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), barely three days after he passed away in a Kolkata hospital.

On Wednesday, two likely contenders to the president’s chair — former India captain Sourav Ganguly, who is also the CAB joint-secretary, and Dalmiya’s son Abhishek — met West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee in an hour-long meeting. Sources said Mamata is likely to support Sourav’s candidature and has asked him to “take Abhishek along” with him.

A source close to the CM said: “She told Sourav she would support his candidature. But she also asked him to take Abhishek along with him. Abhishek had been running the day-to-day affairs of the CAB after his father’s health deteriorated. She also said it was important that Dalmiya’s legacy and contribution to Bengal cricket should be respected.”
