The Ampara High court has ordered a mitigation in the prison statement on the 17 year old girl student who kept cannabis with her.
The student who was apprehended under the charge of keeping 510g of cannabis in her possession was sentenced to a fine of Rs6000 and a compulsory imprisonment for 250days by the Ampara Additional Magistrate Keminda Perera.
However it is mentioned that the relevant student had presented an appeal to the Ampara High Court through a lady lawyer.
High Court Judge Justice Sumudu Premachandra attending to the appeal paid maximum attention for the good of the child according to the United Nations’ Convention on the Rights of the Child and ordered the prison statement to be deactivated.
The Judge has ordered the student to be instead rehabilitated for two years under probation and the Rs6000 was changed to a government fare.
