UNP chairman Malik Samarawickrema says that the party was ready to hold a parliamentary debate about setting up the national government.
While the maiden session of Sri Lanka’s 8th parliament will begin on September first, the Prime Minister is scheduled to present in parliament the resolution on the National Government on that occasion.
Political sources said that the JVP was getting ready to ask for an adjournment debate on setting up the national government.
The UNP Chairman stressed that if the JVP requested, the government was certainly prepared to give an opportunity for such a debate.
The new date for the swearing in of the new cabinet is September 4th.
The UNP has decided, if the JVP asks for an adjournment debate, to offer the opportunity for it on September 3rd, that is, the first day parliament meets after the inaugural session on September 1st.
