South Asian election observers arrive in the country to monitor the General Election

South Asian election authorities arrived in the island yesterday for monitoring the upcoming general election.
The Election Secretariat said that they had come complying with an invitation extended for monitoring the election.
The Election Secretariat said that 30 South Asian Election Authorities’ Union officials would participate in election monitoring island-wide.
European Union’s office for election monitoring in this country was set up in Colombo on 21st last month.

When EU’s Sri Lanka Election Monitoring Operation is implemented, a group of more than 70 observers including representatives of countries which do not hole membership in the EU including Norway and Switzerland will participate in the monitoring activities.
Meanwhile the police have arrested 651 persons for violating election laws.
