The official vehicles of three Sabaragamuwa Provincial Councilors were seized as they had been used for propaganda activities in violation of election laws.
A senior Kegalle election office spokesman said that election and police department officials jointly carried out the apprehension.
The Election Commissioner had earlier informed all provincial council and local government representatives not to deploy official vehicles for the election.
The official vehicles of Kegalle District UPFA candidates Thaaraka Baalasuriya and Provincial Councillors Udayakaantha Gunatilleke and Chamila Dissanayake were thus apprehended.
While former Minister Athaauda Seneviratne is the uncle of Udaykaantha Gunatilleke, former MP Lalith Dissanayake is the father of Chamila Dissanyake.
29 Government and Opposition Sabaragamuwa Provincial Councillors have been noticed to appear before the Ratnapura District Court over the charge of thus deploying official vehicles for election propaganda.
Police media spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekera said that 394 suspects had been arrested in police raids carried out with regard to the general election this time.
PAFFEREL said that 841 election-related incidents had been reported.
