UNP assures that more will contest under elephant symbol


A special convention of the UNP is currently underway under the patronage of party leader Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe at the Campbell Park in Colombo.

Party’s General Secretary Kabir Hashim presented a special proposal to the council.

Accordingly, it was proposed to contest the General Election under the symbol of elephant as the United National Front and to register United National Front as a political party.

Addressing the convention, UNP General Secretary Kabir Hashim stated that the victory on 8th of January is a victory earned by the UNP.

Meanwhile, speaking during the UNP Convention, Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake stated that the price of a household gas cylinder will be reduced by Rs. 100 with effect from 15th of July.

In addition, the Minister stated that measures will be taken to sell 1 kg of white rice and Nadu rice at Rs. 69 in addition to 1 kg of Red Kekulu at Rs. 60.
