Western Provincial CM Prasanna Ranatunga to appear before the court on the 14th

The Western Provincial Chief Minister Prasanna Ranatunga stated that he would appear before Colombo Fort Magistrate on August 14th.

The Chief Minister, his wife and two other persons were asked to report to the FCID yesterday in order to record a statement in connection with an alleged misappropriation committed during a land transaction at Meethotamulla in Kolonnawa.

However, the chief minister and the other persons did not report to the FCID yesterday.

Consequently, Police Media Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekera said the matter was reported to court.

Meanwhile, Election Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya requested the IGP to postpone recording a statement from Western Provincial Council chief Minister Prasanna Ranatunga until July 14th.

The Election Commissioner wrote to the IGP after considering the facts based on a letter addressed to him by UPFA General Secretary Susil Premajayantha.

However, Chief Minister Ranatunga said that he would appear before court on August 14th.

At the same time, Prasanna Ranatunga filed a fundamental rights case requesting the Supreme Court to prevent the FCID from arresting him.
