High-level talks underway on domestic probe

Sri Lankan officials are working on the formation of a domestic commission to inquire into wartime accountability issues, the Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs Mahishini Colonne told media on Wednesday (17).

She noted that high level Sri Lankan officials continue to engage in internal consultations over establishing a transparent and inclusive process to develop a credible domestic mechanism for accountability and reconciliation.

Referring to the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNHCHR) Prince Zeid Ra'ad Zeid Al-Hussein's comments on Sri Lanka in his opening address to the currently ongoing 29th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), the Foreign Affairs Ministry Spokesperson at the weekly briefing said the High Commissioner's comments "were noted."

Ms. Mahishini Colonne stressed that relevant authorities at high levels continue to engage in internal consultations on the matters and added that the authorities also recognized the need to consult all stakeholders on these issues on time.
