Kiriella says Obama to visit Lanka by year end


Plantation Industries Minister Lakshman Kiriella yesterday (16) said that the President of the United States (U.S.) Barack Obama is to pay an official visit to Sri Lanka at the end of this year.

He said the President Barack Obama has promised to visit Sri Lanka at end of this year. Minister Lakshman Kiriella added that many foreign leaders are prepared to visit Sri Lanka as they have confidence in the new Government's commitment towards restoration of democracy and good governance in the country.

The United States Secretary of the Department of State (DOS) John Kerry, and the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi had already visited Sri Lanka, such visits coming after a lapse of many decades, he noted.
