
Government takes precautionary measures against MERS

A special precautionary program has been launched in order to prevent MERS virus entering the island.
The deadly MERS virus is fast spreading these days in South Korea.
The Quarantine Unit of the Health Ministry stated that a special quarantine operation is in place round the clock at the Katunayake International airport to check incoming passengers for MERS.
At the same time, it is stated that WHO has released a warning to its member countries with regard to MERS.
The Quarantine Unit of the Health Ministry therefore has drawn its attention to this warning.
Health Ministry’s Director in charge of quarantine, Dr. L. B. H. Denuwara stated that those travelling from the infected countries will be subject to a special check at the Katunayake International Airport.
