No difference in 225 the total number of parliamentary seats

Cabinet has approved the proposals Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe presented to cabinet yesterday with regard to the new election system under the 20th constitutional amendment.

The Prime Minister has proposed that the number of parliamentary seats remain 225 with no change.

However the Prime Minister’s proposal states that out of these 125 seats will be assigned for the first-past-the-post system and 75 for the proportional representation system while 25 will be nominated from the national list.

Foreign Affairs Deputy Minister Ajith P. Perera told our news team that the cabinet agreed for the presentation of the relevant draft in four days.
