A special cabinet meeting today for taking a final decision about the 20th amendment

A special cabinet meeting has been convened under the chairmanship of President Maitripala Sirisena today.

A Government Minister said that it would be held at the Presidential Secretariat at 6 p.m.

Reports say that obtaining approval for the 20th constitutional amendment currently submitted to the cabinet is scheduled to take place at this special cabinet meeting.

The President had submitted the 20th constitutional amendment cabinet paper to the cabinet on 13th of last month.

At that meeting a sub-committee comprising nine Ministers was appointed for preparing a final report giving consideration to proposals submitted by political parties.

However Government sources said further that if the 20th constitutional amendment received the cabinet nod today it was scheduled to be submitted to parliament within the next few days.
