Opposition Leader tours Aluthgama and Beruwala


The reconstruction of houses and shops destroyed due to clashes that had erupted in Aluthgama and Beruwala will commence today.

The clearing of debris of buildings destroyed in the clashes was completed during the past two days with the participation of the three armed forces led by the army.

The Government has set apart 200 million rupees for this project implemented on the instruction of Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

94 houses and 137 shops were destroyed as a result of the clashes that occurred in the Darga Town in Aluthgama and Beruwala recently.

Meanwhile Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe toured the affected areas yesterday to inquire about the incident that had occurred in Aluthgama and Beruwala recently.

After offering his obeisance at the Aluthgama Kandhey Buddhist Temple, the Opposition Leader conversed with the Aluthgama Darga Town Adhikaarigoda Muslim community to inquire about their problems.

On this occasion Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe said that he was ready to inquire about providing compensation for the members of the affected Aluthgama and Beruwala families.
