Vernon Philander fined for ball-tampering


Vernon Philander has become the second South African in the last nine months to be charged and fined for ball-tampering after an incident during the ongoing Galle Test.

Philander was fined 75% of his match fee as footage viewed by the umpires after the close of play showed him "scratching the ball with his fingers and thumb".

Sri lanka struggled to get going on the 3rd day of the 1st test against South Africa as the Proteas grabbed wickets at regular intervals.

At stumps Sri Lankans were on 283 for the loss of 9 wickets and trail by 172 runs.
