IUSF protest: Students admitted to hospital [VIDEO]

Tear gas and water cannons were fired at a group of monks, affiliated to the Inter University Students Federation, as they were engaged in a protest in front of the University Grants Commission last afternoon.
5 student monks who received injuries were admitted to the Colombo National Hospital.
Police media spokesperson ASP Ruwan Gunasekara stated that OIC of the Cinnamon garden police as well as a sub inspector were also injured during the altercation and were admitted to the hospital
Before the protest, the Bhikku council of the Inter University Students Federation organized a protest march from Colombo Fort to the University Grants Commission.
They protested alleging that the number of University placements entitled for monks has been reduced.
Our correspondent said that tear gas was fired as the protestors forced to enter the University Grants Commission premises through its main gate.
However, around 20 protesters including several student monks have forcefully entered the Commission premises.
Our correspondent said that the protestors assaulted a policeman during the heated argument between the protesters and the police.
Later all the protesters have entered the University Grants Commission premises and made a speech.
The convener of the Bhikku council of the Inter University Students Federation, Thenne Gnanananda Thera said that the authorities should give solutions to their problems before Vesak Poya.
