There is no information reported regarding any Sri Lankans being on board the crashed Malaysian Airlines flight, the External Affairs Ministry said.
“According to the information we have received so far, there are no Sri Lankan nationals in the flight. However, we are expecting further information from the Sri Lankan mission in the Netherlands and Malaysia on the incident,” Ministry’s Public Communications Division Officer Satya Rodrigo said.
A Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 with 295 people aboard crashed on Thursday in eastern Ukraine near the Russian border, an area roiled by fighting between pro-Russian separatists and Ukrainian forces.
Ukrainian officials said the plane might have been shot down, possibly by a Russian-made antiaircraft system.
