"Without Borders Sri Lanka" is a grass root initiative that develops sustainable community driven development models for impoverished communities.
The organization is planning a mobilization to bring awareness on volunteerism and to showcase a one day project for the Global Youth Services Day 2015 in partnership with Youth Services America under the tag line – The Colombo Classroom: Will you be our teacher?
There are only a limited number of people who volunteer to teach those less privileged due to various reasons, the biggest reason being that they feel they are not “qualified” enough to teach children. So the concept of the project is to give people a first-hand experience of the simple joy of teaching. The main aim is to encourage people to volunteer to teach and along with this, to bring awareness about the need for volunteer teachers to help bridge the Education Divide.
Without Borders Sri Lanka has planned on setting up a model classroom with desks and chairs to accommodate 30–40 children at Crescat Boulevard on Sunday, the 19th of April from 11a.m to 2p.m and invite organizations, individuals and by-standers to teach the kids absolutely anything ranging from English language to dance steps and soft skills.
