Cyber Crime Unit identifies Online sex offenders


The National Child Protection Authoritystated that its Cyber Watch Unit had identified almost 30 sex offenders and 300 potential sex offenders who had allegedly lured children and youth through social media platforms.

NCPA Chairman Anoma Dissanayake told a media briefing today that the Cyber Watch Unit had arrested seven people on charges of perpetrating crimes against children and young people through social media networks.

She said the NCPA had also completed the process of building strong cases against 30 more sex offenders, who will be arrested in the next few months.

Meanwhile, the NCPA said apart from amendments that have been proposed to the Children and Young Persons Ordinance of 1939, the NCPA is also introducing two new Bills pertaining to Foster Care and Persons who work with Children.
