Five students injured in the tear gas attack during the protest march organized by the inter-university student federation are still receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital.
A hospital spokesman said that their condition was not severe.
Meanwhile police media spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekera said yesterday that while an IP and six police constables injured in the incident were hospitalized, one of them had by now left the hospital after receiving treatment.
Police media spokesman also said that although five student representatives had been given the opportunity to hold discussion with the authorities, the students had behaved riotously.
The University Students Federation organized this protest based on certain elements against free education including privatization of education and collecting money from schools.
The students’ protest march commenced near Sri Jayewardenepura University and reached Tunmulla Junction along High-level road.
