A referendum necessary to recite National Anthem in Tamil

A public opinion has emerged about the decision to recite the national anthem in Tamil.

Senior lawyer Gomin Dayasiri said that reciting the national anthem in Tamil is not constitutional.

Our news team contacted Senior lecturer of Linguistics at Jaffna University Swaminadan Wimal to comment on the issue.

Meanwhile the issue on the decision to recite the national anthem in Tamil was raised in parliament today.

UPFA MP Rear Admiral Sarath Weerasekera strongly protested against the decision and JVP MP Sunil Handunnetti objected MP Sarath Weerasekera.

However, SLFP Media Spokesman MP Dilan Perera reiterated that the SLFP has strongly agreed to the decision of reciting the national anthem in Tamil as well.

He also said that although certain SLFP members are personally against the decision, such individual opinions should not be considered as the stance of the party.
