Lotus Tower in dilemma

The Lotus Tower or Nelum Kuluna will turn out to become the next burning topic with regard to projects started by the previous regime with Ports, Shipping and Aviation Minister Arjuna Ranathunga promising to discuss the project with the President Maithripala Sirisena and the Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe soon.

While on a visit to the Port City Project, the Minister stated the Lotus Tower alias (Nelum Kuluna) was being built on a land maintained by the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) and that there were no legal documents to verify that land had been taken for the project. “The former Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) chairman and the then subject minister should be accountable for this irregularity.

This is not just anybody’s land. It is SLPA land and there is a modus-operandi that must be followed,” the minister stated. Adding further he stated the land belonging to the SLPA had been provided under the guise of carrying out a development project but there were no development projects being conducted on this land.

“We will ensure that lands belonging to the SLPA will remain with the Authority and the income produced through projects on these lands or by the SLPA will be for the Authority,” he stated.
