The interim budget with many concessions to Parliament today.


The interim budget is scheduled to be presented in parliament today in order to bring about economic relief to the masses.


Leader of the house minister Lakshman Kiriella said that the proposed interim budget would be presented in a form of a statement by the finance minister.


The Finance Minister also expects to present a description about the current economy of the country.


He also said a parliament debate on the Interim Budget would be held on February 5th and 6th.


Several relief measures to the masses have been promised under the 100 day program presented by President Maithreepala Sirisena as a candidate of the recently concluded Presidential election.


The waiving of import duty to reduce prices of 10 essential goods is one major step mentioned in the 100 day program. 


To double the Samurdhi benefit, 10 thousand salary increment to state workers and to provide interim allowance of 3500 rupees to retired persons until their salary anomalies corrected are major among the reliefs.


In addition, the 100 day program has promised senior citizens to increase their fixed deposit interest rate upto 15% for the first million rupees.


At the same time, the current monthly allowance given to senior citizens with abject poverty would be increased by 1500 rupees.
