External Affairs Minister Professor G.L. Peiris arrived in India today to begin a three-day official visit.
Minister Peiris is expected to hold high-level bilateral discussions regarding issues critical to both countries.
He is scheduled to meet Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, and later Telengana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.
According to Indian media sources, Minister Peiris will meet his Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj tomorrow and will focus on the fishermen dispute affecting both countries.
The two ministers will also set their sights on the 13th Constitutional amendment, development of bilateral economic cooperation, the international committee appointed by the UNHRC to conduct an inquiry regarding Sri Lanka in addition to Islamic extremism.
This will be the first time a Sri Lankan External Affairs Minister holds a meeting with the new government following BJP’s victory in the General Election.
