President Mahinda Rajapaksa says that it was possible for the Government to provide for the people a motherland that was more precious than gold where they could live freely.
The President said so while participating in the event at Temple Trees yesterday for handing over to owners the gold items the army had recovered from various sites in the North during the time the humanitarian operation was carried out.
Among these were gold items the LTTE had snatched from the general public and gold items that had been pawned at LTTE banks at heavy interest rates and not been redeemed by owners.
Accordingly on this occasion gold items were distributed to 2379 persons.
