A VEHICLE IGNORING POLICE COMMAND TO STOP FIRED AT KATUWANA

Police have opened fire at a vehicle ignoring police commands to stop at Katuwana-Horewela junction.
The police spokesperson’s office stated that an inspection was carried out on information received regarding the theft of cattle. During the inspection the vehicle was given the signal to stop, however since it continued to flee ignoring the commands to stop, the police fired at the wheels of the vehicle last evening.
One of the suspects in the vehicle was taken into custody, while two others have fled.
During the questioning of the arrested suspect it has been revealed that the stolen cattle had been transported to the Matara and that they were returning from their journey.
The arrested suspect is a 44-year-old resident of the Meelela area.
