Presidential election on November 16th - Calling of nominations on October 7th - Placing of deposits from today

The Presidential election for the appointment of the 7th executive President of Sri Lanka has been scheduled for the 16th of November.
The announcement was made through a gazette notification last night.
Accordingly, the acceptance of nominations for the presidential election will take place on the 7th of October from 9 am to 11 am.
Candidates contesting for the presidential election can make their deposits from today to 12 noon on October 6th.
The elections commission noted that complaints against presidential candidate nominees will be accepted till the 7th of October until 11.30 am.
A presidential candidate contesting from a reputed political party is to make a deposit of 50,000 rupees while independent candidates are to place a deposit of 75,000 rupees.
This years presidential election is to be held in accordance with the 2018 registered voters list and accordingly the number of eligible voters is 15 million 992 thousand 096.
Meanwhile the chairman of the elections commission, Mahinda Deshapriya attending a media briefing on the 9th of this month noted that he has been informed of 17 parties contesting and one former MP contesting independently.
