Thundershowers to continue Water levels of several rivers rise


The met department states that Showery condition over the island is expected to continue further.

Duty Meteorologist Buddika Bandurathna stated that Heavy falls above 100 mm are likely at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and Central provinces.

The department of irrigation says that the water levels of Kelani, Kalu and Nilvala rivers and the Attanangalu oya continue to be at the same level.

It has been reported that the Kelani river Naagalagam weethiya water levels which rose yesterday resulting in cause of concern, is currently receding.

A minor flooding situation was also reported from the Kalu river Millakanda area and the Duunamale Atthanagalu oya area.

The department of irrigation issuing a communique early this morning noted that even though the water levels of the Kalu river continue to rise, the risk of flooding from the Nilwala river and Attanagalu oya is receding.

The landslide warning issued to Ratnapura, Nuwara Eliya, Kegalle and Kalutara districts is to be in effect until noon today.
