SLFP central working committee approves the proposal to field President Maithripala Sirisena in the next Presidential election


A proposal to field President Maithripala Sirisena as the party candidate in the forthcoming presidential election has received the approval of its central working committee.

North Western Provincial Governor, Peshala Jayarathna has made the proposal during a central working committee meeting chaired by the president at his official residence in Colombo yesterday.

MP Shantha Bandara confirmed that the proposal was passed unanimously.

He further said that a program to protect the Sri Lanka Freedom party and the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna was also discussed in depth.

In addition, Shantha Bandara said that the committee has discussed to field President Sirisena as the party candidate while Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa as its Prime ministerial candidate.

In addition former SLFP General Secretary Professor Rohana Lakshman Piyadasa said that a 7 member committee was appointed during the central working committee meeting to study the talks between the SLFP and the SLPP to form a new alliance.

Meanwhile, MP Kumara Welgama visited the SLFP headquarters during a Pirith ceremony held there last night.
