The person who killed a dog at Katana taken into custody

The Police have taken into custody the person hit and killed a dog which was being reared in a house on Kandawala Subhasadhaka Mawatha in Katana on Poson Poya Day.
The Police Media Spokesman’s office said that the suspect who was taken into custody yesterday was produced before the Negombo Magistrate’s Court today.
It was a lion pomeranian which was killed on the day before evening, saying that it was barking frequently.
The owner of the dog said that it had been killed by her neighbour.
Meanwhile, Animal Welfare Associations said that killing of domesticated dogs has increased.
Animal Welfare Activist Irani Kodituwakku said that from last October up to now, 15 such incidents have been reported.
Last January, a dog which was being reared in a house at Periyamulla – Negombo was set on fire while in its cage, and killed. An incident of pouring kerosene and setting fire and killing a pregnant bitch in Kandahena – Wathuragama – Gampaha was reported last February.
