Teachers and principals on sick leave

The Lanka Teacher Services Union says that they will engage in a trade union action , by taking sick leave.
The protest is being launched as they voice several demands including the removal of salary anomalies and the increase of teachers’ and principals’ salary’s.
the General Secretary of the union , Mahinda Jayasinghe said that 30 education sector trade unions including school principals support this trade union action.
The general secretary also said that the union would not undertake monitoring inspection responsibilities pertinent to the General Information Technology Examination that began on Monday.
the Education Commissioner Sanath Poojitha said however that these inspections would not be impacted by the strike.
The commissioner also said that the relevant inspectors were bound to participate in inspection activities.
issuing a communiqué the Lanka Teachers’ Union said that alongside the trade union action being implemented today, a protest campaign would be staged in the vicinity of Colombo Fort Railway Station.
The communiqué also states that school principals and teachers islandwide are supporting the trade union action.
