Search operation for those missing in Meriyabadda suspended

The government has decided to call off the search operations in Koslanda Meeriyabedda landslide site.
During search and recovery operations conducted for the 12th day yesterday, workers found 2 more bodies in the rubble bringing the total number of bodies found to 13 and another 17 people are still unaccounted for.
Hoverer, on the request of the villagers, the government has decided to halt the recovery operations and resettle the surviving victims of the landslide disaster.
Minister of Disaster Management Mahindananda Amaraweera, who visited the landslide hit area and met the survivors of the disaster and rescue workers, said the relatives of the deceased people have requested the rescue operations be suspended.
Meanwhile, the government has decided to build new houses immediately for those who have lost their dwellings due to the disaster.
