Prime Minister D M Jayarathna issuing a Deepavali message stated that Deepavali, or Festival of Lights, celebrates the victory of Goodness over Evil and Light over darkness.
Meanwhile Opposition Leader Ranil Wickramasingha states that the deepavali festival can be made more meaningful by aiming at creating a righteous society.
He also stated that this should be carried by all lighting the lamp of wisdom.
