New York helicopter crash kills two

Two people are dead and three people are in critical condition in hospital after a tourist helicopter crashed into New York’s East River.

Six people were onboard the helicopter when it crashed, the US Coast Guard said in a statement.

One person was rescued by a tugboat and five others were “recovered by divers,” it said.

FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro told reporters the pilot had freed himself but the others were unable to get free.

The helicopter, which is owned by Liberty Helicopter Tours had been hired for a private photoshoot, New York City police Commissioner James O’Neill said.
