Landslide victory for Podujana Front led by former President

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna led by former President Mahinda Rajapakse saw a landslide victory with 239 out of 340 local government bodies, receiving 4 million 966 thousand 203 votes.
The votes for Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna accounted for 45.31 percent of the votes cast.
The UNP secured 42 local government bodies and Illankei Tamil Arusu Kachchi secured 38 local government bodies.
The UPFA and the SLFP secured victory in 10 local government bodies.
The Ceylon Workers Congress was able to secure victory in 5 local government bodies.
Muslim Congress won 3 while, three independent parties were able secure their place in the three local government institutions of Beruwela, Mahiyanganaya, and Maharagma.
The Podu Jana Peramuna secured Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte, Moratuwa, Kaduwela, Matara, Gampaha, Anuradhapura, Dambulla, Ratnapura and Ampara municipal councils.
they also secured Kesbewa, Borelasgamuwa, Peliyagoda, Katunayake, Seeduwa, Minuwangoda, Horana, Jaela, Kadugannawa, Waththegama, Lindula, Thalawakelay, Ambalangoda, Hikkaduwa, Tangalle, Balangoda, Embilipitiya, and Kegalle urban councils.
With the Exemption of Weligama urban council in Matara district, all other local government institutions in the respective district were secured by the Podu Jana Peramuna.
The Podu Jana Peramuna won all local government bodies in the Hambanthota, and Kalutara district apart from the Hambanthota municipal council and the Kalutara and Panadura urban councils.
It is significant that Podu Jana Peramuna was able to secure local government bodies of Moneragala, Ratnapura and Anuradhapura districts.
Further, the Podu Jana Peramuna was able to secure victory in all local government institutions in Colombo except in the Colombo and Dehiwala- Mt. Lavinia municipal councils, and the Kolonnawa, Seethawakapura urban councils.
in the Negombo district they secured all local government institutions except the Negombo municipal council and the Wattala- Mabolae urban council.
In addition they also secure all local government bodies in the Matale district and the Kurunegala district except for the Matale municipal council ,the Kurunegala municipal council and the Kuliyapitiya urban council.
The authority of majority of the local government institutions in the Kegalle, Kandy, Polonnaruwa, Putlam districts was also secured by the Podu Jana Peramuna.
The UNP won in the Colombo, Dehiwala- Mt. Lavinia, Kandy, Kurunegala, Nuwara Eliya, Galle, Hambanthota, Badulla municipal councils and was able to secure the Kolonnawa, Wattala, Maabolae, Panadura, Kalutara, Kuliyapitiya, Weligama, Puttlam, Gampola, Nawalapitiya, Hatton and Dickoya urban council.
The SLFP along with the UPFA was able to secure the Polonnaruwa municipal council, as well as Thamankaduwa, Lankapura, Welikanda and Badulla Pradeshiya Sabhas.
The JVP was not able to secure any local government bodies.
It is also noteworthy that the authority of the Maharagama urban council was secured by an independent group which was backed by the Podu Jana Peramuna and all divisional authority was secured by them.
The authority of the Bandarawela and Beruwela urban councils was secured by two independent groups.
