Sri Lanka police say an investigation is underway to arrest the culprits of the alleged attack on Sabaragamuwa University.
Police Media Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana said that investigations into the attack are underway and the Police Headquarters had recorded statements from 10 persons of interest so far.
Two police teams have been deployed to conduct investigations, the Spokesperson said.
An unidentified gang of armed men Friday night attacked the students of Sabaragamuwa University who were engaged in a fasting protest and 12 students were hospitalized with injuries.
The attackers also set fire to the protest stage on which the students were holding a Satyagraha campaign at the Pambahinna junction on the Badulla - Colombo main road.
Injured students have been admitted to the Pambahinna hospital and six of them were later transferred to the Balangoda Base Hospital.
Meanwhile, the Convener of the Sabaragamuwa University Students Union, Rasindu Jayasinghe said the supporters of a ruling party politician are behind the attack on the students.
