President meets with Modi in New York – No discussions about 13A


The meeting between President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly Sessions was held last evening.

International Political Analysts noted it as a special diplomatic meeting.

Indian media reported that key issues, including bilateral and regional, were discussed during the meeting.

According to Indian media, subsequent to the over 30 minute long meeting, President Rajapaksa has said that the meeting was cordial and they discussed about various issues.

When Times of India asked about India pushing for expeditious implementation of the 13th Amendment, the President has said that the issue was not discussed in the meeting.

Modi had then noted that India valued its relations with Sri Lanka as the two leaders reiterated their desire to further strengthen bilateral relations.

Prime Minister Modi had also expressed interest in the early launch of the 500 MW Sampur coal power project and greater connectivity between the two countries.
