
Dutch hospital re-opened (Pictorial)

The Galle Dutch Hospital which was refurbished by the Urban Development Authority and transformed into a new shopping complex, was declared open by President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
A union of old world charm and modern sophistication, it will house 21 exclusive stores featuring world renowned brands that offer a unique collection of products including handicrafts, paintings, spices and jewellery coupled with a wide offering of restaurants and cafes.
Located in the Galle Fort, inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Dutch Hospital is an iconic structure that was originally built by the Portuguese and later developed by the Dutch.
The Galle Dutch Hospital, remains to date at the historical Dutch Fort as a structure that emanates a truly unique architectural character and charm, even amidst destruction.
