3 more elephants die mysteriously in Hambanthota


The Wildlife Department has begun investigations with regard to killing of wild elephants by poisoning when these elephants come to Wewpitiya for quenching their thirst.

Carcasses of two wild elephants and an elephant calf which had died after coming to Wewpitiya in Maetigatta in Hambantota to quench their thirst were found recently .

Hambantota Wildlife Office Wildlife Forest Protection Officer W. M. A. Gunaratne stated that there was no external sign on the body of any injury.
