Basil request permission to travel overseas

Attorney General’s Department has submitted a petition against the request made by former minister Basil Rajapaksa for foreign travel.

The former minister has requested permission to travel abroad for three months for medical treatment.

He was arrested by the Financial Crimes Investigations Division (FCID) in July when he appeared to provide a statement regarding allegations of millions of rupees of the Divi Neguma funds during the previous government. He was later released on bail.

The case will be taken up again on January 26.
