Sitting on the chair is not an issue; a statement from the speaker

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya told parliament that an individual sitting in his chair is not an issue for him.

The third day of the committee stage debate on the third reading of Budget 2017 began at 9.30 this morning.

Answering UNP MP Chaminda Gamage, the deputy minister of Power and Renewable Energy Ajith P Perera said Sri Lanka has still not taken a decision whether to build a nuclear plant.

At the same time, answering MP Dinesh Gunawardana understanding order 23, Minister Mangala Samaraweera said Sri Lanka’s stance on Palestine has not been changed.

Thereafter, MP Gunawardana questioned why Sri Lanka did not vote the UNESCO proposal with regard to the ancient city of Eastern Jerusalem in Palestine.  Minister Samaraweera replied that Sri Lanka abstained from voting, going by UNESCO values that all religions should be treated equally.
