Two hour power cut across the island today; Colombo not affected

Ministry of Power and Energy says that as a result of the failure at the Norochcholai Coal Power Plant, power will be withheld in all districts island wide except for Colombo.
The Ministry’s Development and Media spokesman Sulakshana Jayawardhana said that beginning today, power cuts would occur daily for one hour in the morning and one hour at night.
The Minister of Power and Renewable Energy Ranjith Siyambalapitiya noted that power interruptions may occur due to the malfunction at the Norochcholai Power Plant.
The power plant, is responsible for contributing 900 megawatts of capacity to the national grid.This was interrupted as a malfunction occurred at 11.00am on Saturday.
Certain areas in the northern, north central and eastern provinces experienced a 1 hour power failure.
During a media briefing, Minister Siyambalapitiya noted that it would take five days to restore the operations at the plant.
