SL receives assistance from four powerful countries to minimizing debt burden

The US, Germany, France and England have officially stated that they will assist with the process of reducing Sri Lanka’s debt burden.

During a discussion yesterday between minister of Finance Ravi Karunanayake and Ambassadors and High Commissioners of those countries, more attention was drawn towards how to minimize the interest rate for extricating the country from the loan burden.

While currently the country owes approximately 8500 billion rupees, of which 42 per cent is foreign debt.

The ministry of finance said that foreign diplomats consented to the request that recommendations be submitted to the World Bank for obtaining low interest loans.

The World Bank Sri Lanka director was also present on this occasion.
