GMOA halts planned strike following discussions with Minister of Health


The GMOA says that the minister of health has agreed to provide a solution over the issue of enrolling doctors’ children into the 1st grade of popular schools.

The secretary to the association, Dr. Nalinda Herath stated that the Minister of Health, Rajitha Senaratne assured that discussions would be held with the Minister of Education regarding the matter, next week and provide a solution. 

Doctors from hospitals in Matara, Kandy and Kurunegala launched a token 4 hour strike yesterday beginning at 8 am.

As a result, the strike caused notable disruption to the functioning of the hospitals, which in turn greatly inconvenienced many patients receiving treatments.

GMOA secretary Dr. Nalinda Herath said that following discussions with the health minister, the island wide strike, which was to commence next week, has been postponed.
