Cricket Australia’s amusing decision to withdraw skipper Steven Smith midway through the ODI series to ‘freshen’ him up for their next assignment against South Africa has drawn in much criticism from various quarters.
Even as South African duo Graeme Smith and Dale Steyn has criticized the move, Sri Lankan skipper Angelo Mathews has now joined the chorus, aiming a sly dig at his Australian counterpart.
While Australia’s head coach Darren Lehmann vehemently defended the decision which he said was taken by himself and the selection panel.
Mathews said that he would never have left a tour midway, especially if his team were struggling as much as the visitors have been in Sri Lanka.
