President of Galle District Cricket Association Premasiri Halambage shot dead

A popular entrepreneur of Ambalangoda and President of Galle District Cricket Association Premasiri Halambage was shot dead last night.
Two individuals who arrived in a white motor vehicle had opened fire near the residence of the victim at Manimulla in Ambalangoda.
Reports indicated that Premasiri Halambage who received critical injuries following the shooting was pronounced dead, before being admitted to Balapitiya Base Hospital.
Police noted that cause for the shooting incident, and the perpetrators have not been determined so far.
53 year old Premasiri Halambage was elected the President of Galle District Cricket Association on the 28th of last month.
However, the election was conducted amidst a problematic environment.
On the day of the vote taking, the members of the cricket association was prevented from entering the premises of Galle International cricket stadium, as the administration authority had kept the gates locked.
However, the members held a meeting in front of the gate and took measures to appoint the new committee for the association.
Nevertheless, the Sri Lanka Cricket did not accept the appointment of Premasiri Halambage.
In a letter submitted, the SLC noted that the relevant election should be held on the 27th of this month.
Premasiri who sought legal action against the decision of the SLC, requested for an Enjoining Order from the court.
Accordingly, the Galle district court issued an enjoining order suspending the cricket association election, scheduled to be held on the 27th of August.
The order was issued 3 days prior to the murder of Premasiri Halambage.
