Draft bill on Office for Missing Persons passed with amendments

The draft bill to establish an office for missing persons was passed with amendments in parliament today.
Parliament was adjourned at 12.30 this afternoon due to a protest staged by the Joint Opposition Mps against the draft bill
The session resumed again after an hour.
Later, a tense situation occurred between MPs of ruling party and opposition today, after a group of MPs entered the well of the House and staged a protest when Minister Mangala Samaraweera presented the draft bill to establish an office for missing persons.
Joining the debate, MP M.A. Sumanthiran representing TNA and MP Bimal Ratnayake representing JVP expressed their views.
The Speaker informed the House that the relevant Act should be passed, if the Joint Opposition MPs would refrain from participating in the debate.
Accordingly, the draft bill for establishing an office for Missing persons was passed with amendments in parliament.
