Police handed over a letter to ex-President Mahinda Rajapaksa, informing him of the availability of Campbell Park in Borella for the Joint Opposition (JO) rally this afternoon (01st), the Police Media Director Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Priyantha Jayakodi stated.
Heavy traffic congestion has been reported along the Maligawatta and Panchikawatta areas as the protest march being staged by the Joint Opposition (JO) is heading towards Campbell Park, the Police sources told Hiru news.
It was reported that the government made the decision after Rajapaksa's request to the Prime Minister.
The Joint Opposition had earlier reserved the Hyde Park. However, the ground was closed due to some repair work last week.
The protest march, which has been dubbed ‘Jana Satana Pada Yatra’, commenced from Peradeniya on Thursday (July 28) with the participation of Joint Opposition MPs and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
