Bus fare revision in effect from today


The cabinet recently approved a six per cent bus fare increase.

Accordingly the minimum 8 rupee bus fare will be raised to 9 rupees.

However the 12 rupee second bus fare will not be amended.

The 15 rupee and 16 rupee bus fares will be altered to 18 rupees and 20 rupees respectively.

The National Transport Commission said that under the inter-provincial bus service the Colombo – Kandy luxury bus fare had been increased to Rs. 300.

Parallel to this the expressway bus fare also increases from today.

The Maharagama - Galle bus fare that was previously Rs. 375 will be increased to Rs. 390. 

The Maharagama – Matara bus fare increased from Rs. 445 will be Rs.470 while the Kaduwela – Matara bus fare is Rs. 490.

The Kaduwela – Matara bus fare is revised to Rs. 510.

Meanwhile Sri Lanka Self-Employed Persons’ Federation Chairman Sunil Jayawardhana said that the three-wheeler fare would be increased by Rs. 5 per kilometer.

The Federation chairman said that the fare would increase from the second kilometer of travel, and not the first.

However several three-wheeler trade unions have said that three-wheeler fares would not be increased.
