GMOA is with the Gvt. on new move against tobacco consumption

The government’s decision to increase the VAT on alcohol and tobacco is a positive move, Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) states.

The association has pledged to support the government in any decision to reduce the consumption of liquor and tobacco in the country.

Health Minister Ranjith Senaratne stated cigarette packages will be changed as it is done in Australia.

However, the law to depict pictorial warning on cigarette packages was won.

GMOA said changes to that should be done following a scientific study.
