
Officials observe an increase in number of Leprosy patients in Matale

Health officials say that an increase in the number of individuals who show symptoms of leprosy have been reported from a number of areas in the Matale district.
Director of health services of the Matale district, Dr Lalith Dissanayaka stated that patients have been reported form Dambulla, Galewela, Laggala, Pallegama and Wilgamuwa Divisional Secretariats.
A rise in the number of patients from 18 in the year 2012, to 36 in last year has been reported from the district. Dr.Lalith Dissanayake added that a rise in the number of patients could be seen this year as well.
Director of the Leprosy Control Programme, Dr.Nilanthi Fernando stated that 2134 patients have been reported last year adding that 182 of them are children.
